Your Memories in a Magazine

Get creative this Valentine’s Day

19 January 2018

With Valentine’s Day less than a month away, it’s time to start thinking about creative ways to express your love. Aren’t flowers and chocolates just too predictable? And let’s be honest… a little bit lazy?

Taking that extra time to create something special for your other half will carry so much more value than anything money can buy.

That doesn’t mean you have to be the next Van Gogh to put a smile on your partner’s face. A creative gift can be as simple as writing a love letter or telling the story of your relationship through a LifetimesMAG.

Luckily there’s still plenty of time to get resourceful and pull out all the stops for your loved one. The Scribbler has put together a list of ideas that are sure to make your other half swoon this Valentine’s Day.

1) Pre-planned date nights

Get organised and start planning some exciting dates for the coming months to rekindle the spark of the ‘honeymoon phase’.

It doesn’t have to be all ‘wining and dining,’ and expensive trips away. Book a babysitter and have a movie night at home, complete with popcorn, sweets and a selection of your favourite films!

The idea is to commit to ‘date’ each other, no matter how busy your lives get – it’s the gift that just keeps on giving! The Scribbler suggests planning and writing down (or presenting in a creative fashion) 12 different dates – one for each month of the coming year.

2) Play your cards right

This might seem a bit cheesy, but a deck of 52 playing cards is the perfect way to express to your other half what they mean to you.

On each card, write down one of the many reasons that made you fall in love with that person, creating a beautiful keepsake that can be reflected upon time and time again as a heartfelt reminder. You can even enjoy a romantic game night together with each turn bringing up sweet-nothings.

It’s cheap and simple to make – but it’s impact will have a lasting impact. Some things aren’t voiced as often as they maybe should be amongst the hustle and bustle of daily life, so taking the time to write down all the little things that you love will be the perfect gift to celebrate your affection.

3) Put your love in print

Have you ever thought that your relationship deserves to be on the cover of a glossy magazine? A LifetimesMAG will do just that and provide a perfect gift for your Valentine.

Tell us the story of how you first met and where you plan to go next, and our professional writers and designers will do the rest, creating a stunning platform to showcase your relationship.

4) Go scavenging!

A romantic scavenger hunt could show your partner just how much you care about them, while also creating a fun-filled morning or day for you both to spend some quality time together.

You could keep it low-key and do it in the house and garden, hiding tiny clues in secret nooks or rooms that hold specific memories. Or you could make it a full-day event, taking your date to all the places that hold a special place in your hearts. Go big, or go home, right?

Make the clues personal to your relationship, including all your little quirks and inside jokes that only the pair of you would ever understand.

5) A weekend get-away with a twist

For a more elaborate Valentine’s Day gift, surprise your partner with a whirlwind weekend away. But don’t stop there. Get creative and plan ahead!

Maybe there’s a romantic note left on the pillow or a secret spa-day planned. Take your loved one for a country walk and bring a picnic with wine and their favourite food.

Maybe you know of something that your other half has always wanted to do, or try, and you could make it happen while you’re away. The possibilities are really endless… but with just over three weeks to go, there’s no time to waste!
