Any wedding-related nerves have come to an end and the big day went off without a hitch. And now, as a newly wed couple, you’re ready to take on the world together… it’s honeymoon time!

Start your marriage as you mean to go on… with excitement and a whole lot of adventure! Sure – sitting in a luxury resort and basking in the sun all day is an ideal way to unwind after the stress of planning the most important day of your life.

But The Scribbler thinks that a honeymoon is the perfect opportunity to start ticking things off your bucket list together. Where have you always dreamt of going? Did you want to bathe in a hot spring in Iceland? Jump off a waterfall into crystal clear waters in Bali? Or explore the exotic cultures and wildlife in Africa?

Of course each couple is individual and their first romantic trip away together as a married couple should reflect that. It’s an opportunity to go off the beaten track and get lost in the wonders of our expansive Earth.

A honeymoon is the ultimate excuse to invest in a trip you'd otherwise never splurge on and the best time to visit your dream destination. So here are our top five places to visit with your new spouse in 2018:

With endless troves of glorious beaches, colonial structures, stunning landscapes and colourful culture, Vietnam is a gem that will leave a lasting impression on you. It really has it all… from world heritage sites to the nightlife of the bustling cities, paddy fields and arguably some of the best food going!

Mozambique

Considered by some to be one of the last truly “wild” places in southern Africa, Mozambique boasts astounding wilderness alive with one of the most diverse animal populations in the world. Together you can travel to where lions lounge in the shade of trees and elephants wander freely. It is an unbeatable adventure.

Bali and the Gili Islands (Indonesia)

With epic volcanoes wrapped in a deep green canopy, sandy shores that fade into turquoise waters that are full of life and a culture and history that will rouse the curious travellers. Bali is a firm favourite with tourists, with tropical jungles, awe-inspiring temples and breathtaking beaches.

But a quick boat trip away are the three Gili islands just off Lombok island. Each one offers a unique experience, from good street food and partying, to wildlife and tranquil beaches. It’s got all you could want to kick off your married life together the right way!

Iceland

Explore New Nordic cuisine, climb glaciers, or soak away your troubles in skin-soothing natural hot spring, Iceland is a rugged paradise. Iceland’s size makes it easy to move between must-see sights like the famed mineral-rich waters of the Blue Lagoon or the glittering glaciers of Vatnajökull National Park, not to mention the museum scene in Reykjavik.

Fancy a honeymoon under the stunning spectacle of the Northern Lights? Iceland also happens to be one of the most accessible places on Earth to catch a regular display of the spellbinding natural light show.

Ireland

You don’t have to go a long way for a trip of a lifetime. How about taking your loved one on a exploration around the rolling green hills, sheer craggy cliffs and looming stone castles of Ireland? Spend a day in a castle, or create your own little pub-crawl around Galway, before visiting the stunning coastline. Its green pastures and welcoming locals will be enough to make you fall in love all over again!

LifetimesMAG.com is going on a little holiday of their own in the next couple of weeks... to London and Birmingham for the National Wedding Shows! If you are going, do pop along to Stand D81 at Olympia in London (February 16-18) and Stand A14 at the NEC in Birmingham (February 23-25) to say hello. Hope to see you there!
